(Sort of) Perfect Jeans: 7 For All Mankind’s Austyns for Men
Forget about the fact that 7 For All Mankind jeans are widely known to be stylish
among certain pop stars and Hollywood celebrities. It may be true, but, as my mom might say, would you jump off a
bridge if all the famous people were doing it? Of course, I know a few tabloid-obsessed people who probably would
jump off that bridge, but I’ll assume you’re not among them.
Okay, so if making contact with the glamorous legs of famous people is not a good
reason to make a pair of jeans worth buying, then what is? I can only speak for myself, but I have a few things I
look for in jeans. Rather than making a list of things that I like, I’ll just point you in the direction of 7 For
All Mankind’s Austyn relaxed fit jeans for men
No pair of jeans is perfect, but I’m truly hard-pressed to find anything wrong with
the Austyns. Sure, they’re not perfect in every color—I’m personally not a fan of the Bergen-colored ones—but 7
offers the Austyns in so many different colors that I can’t complain. I do very much like the colors Black Out,
Archer Heights, Alvarado, Port Lions, and Glenview.
First, and most importantly, the Austyn jeans strike a perfect balanced between
tightness and looseness. They are comfortable, and the legs aren’t restricted in movement, but their silhouette is
clean, straight, and not too baggy. They don’t bulge out in the hips or around the knees or ankles. They’re crinkly
in the right places, and straight in the right places. And where they’re a little tighter, the semi-stretch denim
negates any possibility of discomfort.
Second, the, seven jeans for men,Austyns have a change
pocket. I’m perfectly willing to admit that I may be the only person in the world who actually uses my change
pocket, but I’m not ashamed. It’s so handy, especially when I sit in those slippery subway seats or lounge around
at a friend’s house. There’s something undignified about having to get down on the floor and pick up change that
has fallen out of your pockets, and change pockets prevent that particular type of low moment. I’m proud to be a
booster for change pockets, and the Austyn has them.
Third, the Austyns come out of the factory looking not too crisp, but also not too
beat-up. I don’t want to offend anyone who likes their new jeans to look like they were sent down Niagara Falls a
few times—I have a bought plenty of factory-aged jeans myself—but my favorite styles are balanced. They come out
with a few, basic signs of aging. They may be frayed here and there, with a couple of small holes or spots of
exposed thread, but they still have more aging to do. I like my jeans to grow old with me, but it doesn’t hurt to
have a little bit of a head start.
At around $178, the Austyn is a steal, at least relative to some other styles from 7
For All Mankind. I recommend them to anyone who likes a good balance. They don’t stand out in the crowd, but they
get the job done exceptionally well.
